p>Reference's Form for ApplicantsAshley House employs Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) and Registered Nurses (RN) to provide the complex, around-the-clock medical care that the children require. The nurses are highly trained in skills that support airway management (tracheotomy, mechanical ventilators), intravenous medication or nutrition (TPN) administration, peritoneal dialysis, nutritional management via gastric tubes and ongoing assessment and monitoring. Nursing intervention and medical care is based on the child’s individualized Physician’s Plan of Treatment and Orders.
Nurses at Ashley House provide more than the technological care; they nurture children. Well versed in milestones of growth and development, the LPNs and RNs work with therapists (occupational, physical, and speech) to maximize each child’s potential within the confines of the medical condition. Nurses may accompany children to school. Nurses transport children to and attend doctors’ appointments to share medical information with the multidisciplinary team. The nursing staff also works with and teaches family members about the medical care that their child requires. The nurses take children on outings in the community. The Ashley House focus is the home environment and transition between acute settings and the child’s home and community.
Ashley House also employs Home Health Aides (HHA) who are Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) to provide personal care and assist the children in activities of daily living. The HHA works under the direction of the LPN or RN on duty. The HHA bathes and dresses the children. The HHA provides or assists in all aspects of the child’s personal care. They participate in the transfer of children in and out of bed, wheelchairs and other equipment. The HHA prepares meals for children who eat. Clothes and the environment are kept clean by the HHA.
Home Health Aides at Ashley House also nurture children. They spend time reading to the children, coloring, playing with toys or games and working on homework as needed. HHAs may go on outings or appointments to assist the nurse with the child. The HHA plays an integral role in the day-to-day care and life of the children at Ashley House.
